For extra credit in my eighth grade German class, we could bring in German related food. I was excited, for I knew of the perfect recipe. The year prior I had found a recipe for German cheesecake on allrecipes.com (click here for link to recipe). One of the defining ingredients of the desert is quark. Quark is a type of German cheese. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find in typical, American grocery store.
So, instead of using Quark, I used Greek Yogurt as a substitute. This worked perfectly, as they have very similar consistencies. Despite the fact that the product was delicious, my family found it quite humorous how there was no actual cheese. Soon, the German recipe was labed “The Cheeseless Cheesecake.”
